The Dance Review - Mark Elsbury reports on the BCDC Spring Training Camp

The latest BCDC camp was held on the 8th and 9th of April in Bicester and welcomed dancers from all across the UK to practice, train and learn together. Dancers from juvenile to professionals including solos and couples alike joined the workshops from world class coaches including Jonathan Crossley, Sergey Surkov, Marion Welsh, Carol MacRaild, Timothy Howson, Nicola Nordin, Stephen Hillier MBE, Jennifer Hillier and Alex Ivanets. Through the two day event the dancers were able to practice, learn and socialise together building a strong bond that can only help British dancers to develop and continue to challenge for high honours at both current and future major championships.

The British Competitors Dancesport Corporation was created in 1988 by Mark Parkin, Marcus Hilton MBE, Donnie Burns MBE and Steve Powell as a completely independent organisation to allow competitions to have a voice and influence in their own futures. Since being founded, while maintaining its independence, the mantle of being president has been passed on to many esteemed dancers and I am very proud to have had that responsibility for the last 6 years. Together as a committee we strive to help, develop and support British dancers in any way we can, so that the future generation can be a force in the world of competitive dancing.

The next event that will be raising funds for the BCDC and British dancers will be a non-for-profit event held on the 20th and 21st of July in the Kassam Stadium in Oxford. There will be a competition day, followed by a Gala Evening with the opportunity to see some of the world's best couples performing, from Juveniles to Professionals. The event will finish with a training day to again bring British dancers together with some of the world's best teachers. If you are interested in just coming to watch or would like to participate in the event please find more information on www.the-english-dance.co.uk. All profits from this event will be donated to the BCDC and back to the participating dancers.
