The Dance Review - Kyle Taylor Reports on the Juvenile U12 Solo Latin at the English Open Solo Championships

Juvenile u12s solo Latin championship:

1st - Paishey Saunders - Paishey is an excellent dancer in both styles, and certainly deserved her first placing. Paishey showed a lovely balance between sharpness and attack, coupled with body fluidity and musicality.

2nd - Emily Robinson - Emily gave a very strong and consistent performance. She has a maturity, which keeps her looking composed and unflustered. A little more ‘attack’, mainly created by more contrast in musicality, would allow her to challenge for the top honours.

3rd - Lacey Lonergan - Lacey gave a fantastic performance, and had a very soft, musical approach to her dancing. She also challenged very strongly for a higher placing, and is no doubt destined for continued future success.

4th - Ava Armstrong - Had very mixed markings, which I believe is due to her having some wonderful qualities, yet, at the same time having some inconsistencies. Ava has a lot of speed and power in the Latin, which easily draws the eye. However, Ava can also lose her base technique and discipline with this. If the two were combined successfully, Ava would no doubt enjoy much success.

5th - Kiera Bevan - Keira danced a good, solid final, and certainly finished strongly with an excellent Jive, which kept pumping all the way. Keira shows a slightly softer approach to her dancing, which sometimes also means she doesn’t look as slick as some of those around her.

6th - Lily-June Davies-Janson - A very strong and mature dancer, who’s maturity becomes a difference maker, particularly in Samba and Rumba, which both require slightly more technical and mechanical understanding. The higher energy dances of the Cha Cha and Jive required a little more commitment in speed and musicality.

7th - A very promising dancer, who started out extremely strongly. The performance levels dropped slightly through the day, and during the final itself. However, a well deserved addition to this final.
