The Dance Review - Kyle Taylor Reports on the Junior U16's Solo Latin at the English Open Solo Championships

Junior u16 solo Latin championship:

1st - Evie Rush - Another entirely dominant performance, which left no doubt who would be crowned champion once again. Evie’s mature performance once again highlighted a very strong understanding of her own body coordination, coupled with exceptional balance. Evie has the ability to perform moves which should rarely be attempted as a soloist, such as figures requiring counter balance. Yet, she makes them appear effortless.

2nd - Lexi Hughes - What an incredible amount of energy and commitment from this extremely talented dancer! Lexi caught the eye from the first moment of the competition, and delivered in every single round. I believe Lexi has the ability to become the future champion, if she continues to develop along the same path. A fantastic performance!

3rd - Chloe Garner-Smith - Gave a strong, all round performance, although, losing energy slightly toward the end of the final, which may have cost her. Chloe has a good leg action, and it’s clear that the fundamentals have been focused on. It would be nice to see Chloe now challenge herself by taking some risks, to improve the dynamic side of her performance.

4th - Annalise Walker - Once again gave a fully committed, and sparkling performance. Annalise has a great energy, both physically and emotionally, which keeps her looking positive and alive at all times. Once the leg and foot actions are refined and strengthened, I believe Annalise could certainly challenge for higher placings.

5th - Katie Jones - Katie was very exciting to watch, and at times showed some of the best dancing on the floor. However, this was not delivered consistently enough to procure a higher placing. It is very clear that Katie’s potential is huge, yet untapped. But, if fully realised, Katie would become a true Latin star.

6th - Owen McGregor - Owen was overflowing with energy, commitment, rhythm, and pure enjoyment of dance. Please, don’t ever lose the latter! Owen was at his very best in the jive, where all his energy and enthusiasm was unleashed. A well deserved place in the final, and thank for your enjoyable performance.
