The Burton Town Hall once again provided the setting for the English Open Solo Championships, and it certainly did not disappoint! The event was expertly orchestrated by Darren and Katie Park of Unity Promotions, putting the solo dancer in the spotlight with a red carpet experience, solo performances for finalists, and honour dances for the 2024 Champions.
The level of performance in the Classical Sequence competitions led to some closely contested events, making the adjudicators' tasks extremely challenging.
The six-dance events showcased an array of dancers competing in various finals, highlighting the exceptional quality of dancing on display. The eventual winners were Lacey Lonergan, Chantel Chen, and Rosie-Mae Moody.
The Individual Classical Sequence Championship events followed on Sunday, with the high level of ability on display resulting in more closely fought contests.
Rosie-Mae Moody delivered a commanding performance to become the Adult Classical Sequence Champion. A worthy winner who consistently produces a high level of dancing.
The English Open Juvenile Champion was Lacey Lonergan, who won all four dances in an excellent final. Lacey is a controlled and accomplished dancer who gave a heartwarming interview about how much dancing means to her.
The English Open Junior Champion was Tamzin Barlow, a strong addition to the solo field. She placed second in the Fylde Waltz and won the other three dances. In what was a closely contested two-horse race with Chantel Chen, Tamzin emerged victorious with a bright and enthusiastic performance, supported by impeccable technique.
Overall, it was an excellent showcase of Classical Sequence talent and a very exciting prospect as we build up to the Blackpool Sequence Dance Festival with its newly revised format.
