The Dance Review - David Trueman Reports on the O50 Latin at the British National Championships 2024

The final of the National Over fifty Latin was very good indeed with each couple in the final round displaying excellent energy levels.

There was a rule eleven split for first place resulting in a win for Trevor Daniel-Martin and Michelle Danielle Martin. They were first in the Cha Cha and Paso and second in Samba and a rumba. They looked very confident right from first round and kept well clear of the other couples allowing themselves a full and free performance.

Second and very close were Ian Miller and Lynne Atkins who reversed the final positions. Tonight was a night that could easily have seen them lifting the title. They produced a solid and commanding performance. Each dance was very well timed with excellent descriptive action.

3rd George Tzoulas and Michael Hall were very clear in so many areas of dance and the synchronisation on show was lovely to see. They demonstrate such good levels of technique. Cha Cha was very well danced and worthy of the third place awarded from the Adjudicators.

4th Darren Dyke and Sandra Dyke another very good showing from a couple who excel in dance presentation. They both show good action and movement and work really well together to provide some very effective shaping especially in the Paso

5th Nigel Mellors and Deborah Martin. They too looked very strong all through the competition. They didn’t quite hit their usual level of flare that is the norm for them. But nevertheless they danced with considerable drive.

6th. Adam Cawood and Patricia Cawood. They must have been really pleased to be in the final shake up such was the level of quality dancing in the semi final from so many. They are always so well rehearsed and each danced is so well defined.

The competition was very good and it’s encouraging to see all dancers striving for accuracy in the fundamentals of Latin.
