The North of England Amateur Ballroom Championship is one of the longest running and much coveted titles on the domestic calendar and is on the radar for all dancers who qualify by birth or residence to compete.
The dancing was of a very high quality this year with a semi final that was very good to watch. The dancers are clearly working on the fundamentals of dance and of course adding their own touches of charisma and class.
Winners with an incredibly strong and commanding performance. Andrei Toader and Mia Linnik-Holden - They were clear of the field with so many areas of dance on display. They are now of course regular finalists in major Championships and this is all assists with the level of dance quality and knowledge.
There was an interesting challenge for the runners up spot which fell kindly on this occasion to Oliver Johnson and Sophie Heyworth. There has been a very noticeable development in their dancing and style over the last twelve months with a greater delivery of foot and ankle use resulting in a much more accurate control of foot pressure.
3rd Max Draper and Sofiia Tyshchyk danced so well all through the competition and pushed as hard as they could, leaving no stone unturned. There was a lovely portrayal of each dance with a clarity of action that comes from dedicated study.
4th Lewis Hateley and Nadya Martynenko - This was one of their best for some time. There was also a very positive look about them which has been lacking for a while. Maybe there was a greater feeling of inner confidence resulting from an increase in competitive practice.
5th Alessandro Bidinat and Danielle Forster - This was an energy filled performance with a high degree of shape production. They are excellent exponents and can produce speed changes at the blink of an eye. Their Quickstep continues to offer all the ingredients of a well constructed programme.
6th Max Appleby and Niamh Harding - This was their first time in the final of this great Championship and how well they deserved it. They have been competing regularly and it showed in their wonderful togetherness. All through the final they displayed a high level of technical content and the delightful softness of accurate knee and ankle action for effortless flow.
